With a deep focus on leadership, resilience, and personal development, CadreSix Founder Glen Burton recently shared his remarkable journey with the staff of 4 Brigade at Catterick Garrison in the United Kingdom. Delivering an inspiring and heartfelt talk, Glen captivated those in attendance by drawing from his own life experiences — from his formative years to his professional successes — offering lessons that resonated deeply with everyone present.
Reflecting on his early decision-making, Glen spoke candidly about joining the Army at just 16 years old, a pivotal moment that set the course for the challenges, growth, and leadership lessons that would define his future. He shared memories of his operational deployments to Northern Ireland and Bosnia, recounting not just the demands of military service, but also the personal resilience required to navigate the highs and lows of such experiences. Many of those listening found themselves relating closely to Glen’s journey — the sacrifices, the uncertainty, and ultimately, the strength forged through adversity.
It’s the hard decisions, the challenges, and the setbacks that shape who we become as leaders, Glen reflected during the talk.
Building on his military experiences, Glen discussed how his career evolved beyond the Army and into the field of Close Protection, a profession that demanded precision, discretion, and unwavering focus.
He shared the inspiration behind his commitment to becoming the very best in his field, emphasizing the importance of self-leadership, continued growth, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence — values that have guided him throughout his life and business career.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback that followed Glen’s talk was a true source of pride, further validating his belief in the power of sharing authentic experiences.
As Glen wrote in his book,
If my journey, life choices, and risk-taking can help others find their own strength, then that’ll do me.
Following the event, Glen shared his gratitude with those who made the morning memorable:
It’s been an absolute pleasure speaking with the Staff of 4 Brigade at Catterick Garrison. My sincere thanks to my good friend, Regimental Sergeant Major (WO1) Lee Westerman, for inviting me. Lee and I served together many years ago, and I had the privilege of taking him under my wing when he first joined the Battalion. Watching him grow into the outstanding soldier and leader he is today has been a true honor.
My thanks also to Brigadier Olly Brown, the Chief of Staff, and everyone in attendance for their warm welcome and engagement. It was an privilege to share this time with you all. Respect and thanks to each one of you for your service — and to the civilian support staff whose vital work underpins everything you do.
